If you take your CBT at 16 you can upgrade to a restricted 50cc bike by 17. From 19 you can move to an A1 license that permits you to ride a 125cc bicycle without L plates and carry a passenger.
The A2 is a step up from this and is available either by passing the direct access theory and practical test or by upgrading from an A1 after two years.
A1 Licence
The open road, the wind in your hair, the exhilaration of riding a motorbike. There's nothing like it, however before you can enjoy the freedom that comes with it there is a crucial first step - obtaining your A1 licence.
The A1 licence is the first step on the motorcycle licensing ladder. It permits you to ride motorcycles and mopeds up to 125cc with the power up to 11 kW. It's available starting at the age of 17 and is a great choice for those who want to begin their motorbike journey in a more easy way.
To obtain an A1 licence you will be required to complete the Compulsory Basic Training (CBT), and pass both a theoretical and two-part practical test. The CBT course offers essential motorcycle training, and can help prepare you for the practical and theory tests. To pass your A1 test, you'll need to be accompanied by an experienced motorcycle instructor. The test will last about 20 minutes and will comprise two modules. Module 1 is held at the training centre and focuses on off-road maneuvers like controlled stop, a slalom and the figure eight. The remaining portion of the test is performed on the road, and will focus on your ability to manage a motorbike while at speed.
Module 2 will focus on riding a motorcycle in traffic and navigating intersections. You will be assessed on your ability to read road signs, and comprehend and apply road laws. You will also be required to demonstrate your ability to ride at a slow speed and do slow control exercises like turning left, riding up and down hills and a U-turn.
Once you have successfully completed your A1 licence, you will be eligible to upgrade to the A2 license by passing your CBT as well as Theory and Practical Tests. You can now ride any A2 category motorcycle and carry a passenger.
A2 Licence
The A2 Licence is the second step in the process of obtaining a full motorcycle licence. Module 1 of your A2 motorcycle test is a park-based session where you will learn how to control your bike by slow speed maneuvering and emergency stops. The next step is the road section of the test. In this section, you will have to demonstrate hazard-avoidance exercises as well as road positioning. You will also be required to perform life-saving checks and keep a two-second distance from the vehicle in front of you. You can make minor faults up to 10 total, including things such as not using your mirrors properly or not maintaining a safe distance from other vehicles.

A3 Licence
The A2 Licence is a natural progression from the CBT and lets riders progress onto larger bikes with more power. It also offers extra perks that you don't get from the CBT, such as riding on motorways and carrying passengers. You can upgrade from CBT to the A2 license by completing additional training and passing the relevant exam. The A2 license is valid for two years, and can be upgraded to a full, unrestricted A licence after another two years.
The first step to obtain your A2 license is to be able to pass the Compulsory Basic Training (CBT) and Motorcycle Theory Test. Once you have completed these requirements, you can take the Module 1 and Module 2 practical tests. The module 1 exam involves demonstrating your riding skills in a closed-circuit. the module 2 test entails manoeuvres in an open road.
During the A2 practical test, you will need to be able demonstrate good observation skills and anticipate dangers on the road. You should also be able to make the right road position, and perform controlled manoeuvres. You must be able for example, to execute a U turn or figure eight. You must be able to manage your bike at a slow speed such as when you are turning at intersections or responding to traffic signs.

A4 Licence
The A4 Licence allows drivers to drive vehicles with four wheels or more. This license covers trucks, buses and coaches. It also covers vehicles carrying website dangerous items. To be able to get a licence, drivers must pass an investigation into their criminal background. The Digital Driving Licence displays important information, including the date of issuance and the classes of vehicles for which the driver is licensed to drive.
To obtain an A1 to A4 license the driver must attend a driving class or local transportation office. They must also pass a physical test. The course lasts about 5 hours (1 full day) and includes a presentation on driving etiquettes and defensive driving and laws related to driving.
The driver will receive an "notice of application" that must be displayed in their premises once the application is approved. The fee will vary depending on the value of the property. Once they've paid the cost, the driver will receive their licence summary via post. They should keep the other pages of their licence in a secure location, as they could be asked to show them by police or council officials.
